Despite what many people might think, modular homes, manufactured homes and mobile homes are not exactly the same thing even though they do have much in common. The one uniqueness the first two share in distinct from the latter and conventional homes is the fact they are fabricated in a specially designed factory and then assembled onsite. Otherwise, they are very different!

First, modular homes are planned, designed and constructed in pieces. This means that building onsite is a significant part of the design. This kind of house is very much akin to putting together a puzzle, but a puzzle that no one knows what will look like until it is done. They are usually financed cheap and start around $20,000.00 or less. These homes are ideal for vacation homes or secondary living quarters on existing land or property.

Manufactured homes on the other hand, are manufactured in sections at the factory and then transported to the designated site. In this case, the home is designed to the detail and built ‘as-is’ onsite. In the case of manufactured homes, complete walls are built, with windows intact so the onsite construction is simple and quick. These traditionally start at $30,000.00 and up.

Mobile homes infer exactly what they are: mobile homes. These are compact and can be moved from place to place for on-the-road living. RVs (Recreational Vehicles) are among this type. They typically run anywhere from $20,000.00 to $35,000.00 and aren’t often used as a permanent residence unless life on the road suites the owner.
